My first time at Haulover Beach

WHAT IS HAULOVER BEACH?
Haulover Beach is a beach in Miami Beach, Florida that has a one-mile, legal, clothing optional section.

IS EVERYONE NAKED?
During a recent visit, I estimate that about 80% of the people on the beach were nude, while the remainder of the people kept a stayed in a swimsuit.

WHAT'S IT LIKE BEING NUDE AT THE BEACH?
For the first few minutes, it felt a little weird to take off all of my clothes -- I kept my swimsuit very close by and layed on my stomach, but the any awkwardness passed after about 15 minutes.

Most of the fear about being naked was fearing that I'd get aroused, but that actually wasn't happening as (often) as I feared.

If you do get aroused, it's not a big deal.  You'll get and see erections, but no one is having sex on the beach.

WHO GOES TO HAULOVER?
A variety of people. The beach is made up of gay and straight men and women, all body shapes and sizes.  No need to worry about your love handles here.

WHERE IS THE GAY AREA?
Gay men tend to sit at the north end of the beach -- on the north side of the pink lifeguard stand.

DO PEOPLE SWIM NAKED?
Yes, most do. Sometimes people will put on a swimsuit to go into the ocean, but rarely.

DIRECTIONS TO HAULOVER BEACH
From Fort Lauderdale, FL
From Miami, FL

BUS
There is a bus stop just outside the nude beach, which makes it easy to get to if you don't have a car.

PARKING
There are several pay parking lots across the street from Haulover. Parking costs about $5.00 per/day. The beach is located at the northern end of Haulover, so park in the northern most lot if it's open to save yourself a longer walk. There is an underground walkway from the parking lot that you can use to cross under the highway to gain entry to the beach from the parking lot.

There is no mistaking the nude beach as it is surrounded by a wooden fence, and signs are posted to let you know that you're entering the nude area.

HOURS
The beach is open from sunrise to sunset. There is a sign on the parking lot toll booth that will tell you the exact time the park closes.

FOOD
There are several trucks on the beach selling water and juices and light snacks. Many people pack their lunch.

UMBRELLA & CHAIR RENTALS
Umbrellas and chairs are available for rent.  Chairs were $10/day each.  I think you can get 2 chairs and an umbrella for $25/day.   Vendors seemed to close at 5:00.

RESTROOMS
Restrooms are currently being built, but there are temporary toilets set up very close to the beach.

ALCOHOL
According to the sign, alcohol is not permitted, however, I noticed several people enjoying beer on the beach.   Perhaps it's not greatly enforced. Glass bottles are prohibited.

KEEP IT CLEAN
Please clean up after yourself by throwing all of your trash away when you leave.   And if you smoke, clean up your butts, don't use the beach as your ashtray.

PHOTOGRAPHY
It's extremely rude to take photos while people are enjoying the nude beach.  Keep your camera at home.
